Brooks Robinson Honored in York; The York Revolution Fan Fest

The day started off cloudy and chilly this afternoon; however, it became sunny and a lot warmer once Brooks Robinson took center stage in York, Pa., this afternoon at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

Today, Oriole legend and Hall of Famer was honored up north today as a statue of his likeness when he was in the minors as a member of the York White Roses was unveiled this afternoon.

The event kicked off the York Revolution Fan Fest, and it seemed like a large chunk of fans who came from nearby and also far away huddled around the stadium plaza to celebrate not only a great ballplayer, but an immaculate man as well.

Dignitaries who attended the event included Lorann Jacobs, Artist and creator of the statue, Peter Kirk, Chairman of Opening Day Partners, J! on Danos, President of Opening Day Partners, Joe Musso, York City Official and John Krout, Chair of YCIDA.

Before the statue was unveiled, there was proclamation of "Brooks Robinson Way" in front of the stadium by Joe Musso, then Brooks spoke to the crowd for a few minutes and saw the display for the first time. He looked moved and also pleasantly surprised by the quality and workmanship of Ms. Jacobs design.

Robinson spent a few minutes and talked about what the city of York meant to his career, thanked his peers and also the legion of fans that showed up. Finally, he gave a warm embrace to his family that was there in attendance to honor him, especially his wife, Connie, whom he publicly thanked in a simple, but touching embrace.

At the end of the event, he spent a good fifteen minutes interviewing with the media and posing for pictures; thereafter, spent he another fifteen to twenty minutes having a meet and greet with fans, as well as si! gning dozens upon dozens of autographs for those who wanted it! .

A Yawner in Washington; Staying the Course: Felipe Lopez?

After a huge series at Wrigley Field, where they took two of three from the Cubs -- the Baltimore Orioles returned home -- sort of, as they played a road game down in the Nation's Capital last night.

It rained and poured literally before the game, but after a brief delay, the Orioles and Nationals tangoed in the second round of the Battle of Beltway. Baltimore looked flat and very lethargic, and in the end they would lose the NL's worst team, Washington, 4-2, last night.

In a game full errors and miscues on the field, along with looking woeful at the plate; Daniel Cabrera was serviceable -- not good -- as he got charged for two runs in the both the first and seventh innings to fall to 5-4 on the year. Besides those two innings, he looked fine, but was hittable on the night.

In a lineup not featuring Aubrey Huff -- by in large, the team's hottest hitter and Luke Scott, the Orioles offense suffered. Nick Markakis and Brandon Fahley drove in run! s for Baltimore, but they just could not get the engine going.

Despite the Orioles taking the Cubs series at Wrigley Field, where they caused the Cubs to lose their first series at home for the year, Baltimore to repeat again and again has been a pleasant surprise.

With the loss yesterday in Washington, they are currently 40-38, two games over .500 and 8 are games out, but most fans would be fooling themselves if they thought Baltimore was a contending team. I don't want to sound crass, rude or raining on the parade -- but the reality is that the Orioles are playing way above their heads.

Despite Huff, Roberts, and Markakis' numbers, the fact remains this team has a lot of holes -- (i.e., shortstop -- Brandon Fahey starting??), an inconsistent starting staff staffed by mostly youngsters, and a lineup stuff devoid of power.

If the Orioles are still contention by the All-Star break, Andy MacPhail should whe! el and deal -- for the future -- not to contend for a pennant.! As much I would love to see the team in the playoffs, the fact of the matter is, this still is probably not even halfway through their rebuilding job.

This notion might be unpopular, but if we have to deal one of our key guys (outside of Markakis and Roberts), it should be done if we can get quality in return. We need a shortstop, more pitching, a power bat, an offensive first baseman and more for the future.

Don't be swayed by the record right now, Andy MacPhail must stay the course.

The winning is nice, but we have to be realistic.

***The other big news to come out in the past few days are the rumors of Felipe Lopez coming to Washington.

You don't want to know what I though when heard the news.

From Fox Sports: The Orioles, desperately seeking a shortstop, have engaged in substantive conversations with the Nationals about a trade for infielder Felipe Lo! pez, according to major league sources.

The Nationals reportedly are close to signing shortstop Cristian Guzman to a two-year contract extension for an unknown dollar amount and are unlikely to retain Lopez as a free agent after this season.

In return for Lopez, the Nationals likely would receive a marginal minor-league prospect.

The Orioles have been looking for help at shortstop ever since trading Miguel Tejada to the Astros last off-season.

Lopez is hitting .247 with 25 runs and 20 RBI.

If a deal is completed, it likely would not be announced until after the completion of the Orioles-Nationals series this weekend in Washington, sources say.

Lopez had some good numbers in Cincinnati -- perhaps because of the bandbox there -- but he's been nothing short of a bust in Washington. Besides his numbers at the plate, the infielder has been seen as nothing but a grouse by the media, and his play on the field has l! eft nothing to be desired.

I thought he might have ! made a g ood candidate to be traded to Baltimore when the season began; however, he could be a bad seed on a Baltimore team that fosters hard play, respect, following the rules, and playing 100%.

He's not done that with the Nationals.

Simply put, he definitely needs a change of scenery and he might be re-energized in Baltimore, but in this case -- if the Orioles do trade for him (IMO, they should not) -- buyer beware!

***Before I go, I'll have more on the awesome time I had at Wrigley Field perhaps starting on Monday. I'll say, I have nothing but respect for the Cubs fans and how the majority of them treated us from Birdland. They did a great job in making us welcome, by chatting with us, and conversing in baseball; however, they showed incredible passion for their team, and their ballpark -- just beautiful, pristine, and full of life.

In a day where ballparks have emulated rock concerts or stuff you'd see in the NBA, it wa! s nice to see a park use minimalist bells and whistles to get the crowd going. Wrigley is simple -- you focus on eyes on the game, the crowd, and not the exploding fireworks, large LCD screen, places to go galore. I appreciated that at Wrigley, and that's why I put it in the upper echelon of ballparks I have ever visited.

I have a lot to do this weekend, and I'm doing the series in D.C. against Baltimore.

I've had a plethora of free time here in my office today, and I have not posted what some of the media other O's blogs have said for a good long while, so here I go. I'll once again make this a bi-weekly feature on the mother ship...

First off, the new jerseys are seemingly a hit with everyone and have almost universal praise -- even from some in Washington. Marc Fisher of the Washington Post gives the organization kudos about their new threads. Now, he is certainly no fan of the Orioles, and especially Peter Angelos; however, he gives nothing but compliments for how the event on Wednesday was handled along with reaching out to the customer base throughout Maryland.

Scott Hoffman of Orioles Hangout has a great article on their website about how great the uniform change was how it resonated with a lot of fans; Pete Kerzel of Pressbox Online also has piece on the uniform change, as does the Examiner. The Roar from 34 gives their stamp of approval with the new threads as does the Wayward O; The Loss Column says the event on Wednesday was a smashing success and as well let's us in on what the team needs to get out of the cellar in the AL East; SC of Camden Chat wants us to d! ig the n ew uniforms and goes into some tidbits about how everything is shaping up the Free Agent market.

Peter Schmuck's blog on the Sun is being manned this week by Jeff Zrebiec, and he says we should consider Aaron Heilman, talks about Burres' eye surgery, the bullpen, Markakis and free agency. Dan Connolly ponders if Mark Teixiera is worth $20 million per year for Baltimore; Pete Kerzel wonders what the O's will do in free agency.

Drew Forrester of WNST thinks that Peter Angelos finally deserves some credit ... but also takes him to task, Chris Oika wonders if the uniform changes were done to bring Baltimore back into the fold, or to reach to the entire state of Maryland; Bob Haynie likes it, but more needs to be done -- like upgrading the team & Bryan Powell wonders if the jersey changes will even matter?

I think it was much appreciated it was done; however, it's like a new car smell -- it goes away, and at some point reality hits. You'r! e going to have repair it, fix it, etc. The Orioles have to do! with pl enty of that with their team.

The Deal for Roberts to White Sox a No Go?

Well, perhaps the talk of Brian Roberts going to the Chicago White Sox may have been overblown. Here's the latest from Baltimore Sun columnist Peter Schmuck...

From the Baltimore Sun: Sounds like the Orioles won't be sending Brian Roberts to the White Sox for pitcher Gavin Floyd anytime soon, though that rumor seems to have more legs than the Rockettes. White Sox general manager Ken Williams made a statement yesterday through a spokesman tha! t he hasn't talked to anyone from the Orioles about anything since November.

Though many O's fans think that Floyd would not represent fair value for BRob, the White Sox apparently feel that a 17-game winner with several years left under reserve is a pretty valuable commodity.

If they didn't, you'd think Williams would use the trade rumor as a pretext for contacting the Orioles to bat the idea around, since Roberts would be a nice fit in the White Sox lineup. Don't hear much about this coming from the warehouse either, but -- to be fair -- you'd be hearing even less if something was going on.

I guess when it come to Brian Roberts and the offseason, you have no idea what to expect. Right now, we have no idea about the talks of an extension with the second baseman; however, from my time in the business world, no news is bad news.

Who knows what's going on, but I do think Roberts is dealt -- whether it is before spring training or d! uring the trade deadline in the summer -- unless a deal can be! made wi th Baltimore.

Phillies Lock Up Ryan Howard With a Three Year Deal...

This is huge for the Philadelphia Phillies, and a move they had to make:

From ESPN: Ryan Howard has agreed to a $54 million, three-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies -- avoiding a potentially contentious arbitration hearing.

Howard, the 2006 NL MVP, led the majors with 48 homers and 146 RBIs last season while helping the Phillies win their first World Series title since 1980.

He batted just .251, struck out 199 times and made 19 errors at first base, but also was runner-up to Albert Pujols for MVP.

"I'm happy to ! have this done and to know that I'll be in Philadelphia for at least another three years," Howard said Sunday.

O's Lose to Twins; Johnson Ailing, Liz to the 'Pen, Quick Hits...

The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Minnesota Twins across Alligator Alley, 5-3, on Monday. Despite two home runs by Aubrey Huff and two hits by Carlos Rojas, they were not enough to counter shaky pitching.

The Orioles' newest acquisition, Mark Hendrickson started the game and went three innings, allowing two runs on five hits; however, much of the damage was done against David Pauley who went 1 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on four hits and striking out one.

Before Pauley came into the game, Dennis Sarfate pitched the fourth inning and gave up a run on two hits. Alberto Castillo and Bob McCrory closed out the game by throwing a scoreless inning each.

The Twins jumped on the Orioles early. Joe Crede slammed a two-run ho! mer in third inning and was perfect at the plate with three hits.. Mike Redmond added an RBI double to center in the fourth. Denard Span had two hits including a triple.

O's Lose Opening Game of Series to Braves; Increased Police Around the Park & Downtown...

The Orioles once again struggled on the offensive front Friday night, and suffered yet another loss, this time to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 7-2. On paper, the Orioles should have done a lot more than score two runs as they had twelve hits and had the bases loaded at times; however, the aforemetioned lack of offense doomed Baltimore and gave Atlanta uber-prospect Tommy Hanson his first MLB win.

Jason Berken was off and got hammered; therefore, he was saddled with the loss. Berken only lasted 4 1/3 innings, and seemingly hit a wall in the fifth, as he gave up two runs in the frame as well as struggled to get anyone out. Berken's opponent on the mound -- Tommy Hanson -- went 5 2/3 innings and gave nine hits, walked five, and struck out five. The Atlanta bullpen -- Pete Moylan, Eric O'Flaherty, Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez -- kept the Baltimore bats quiet for the remainder of the game.

Atlanta's Brian McCann had 4 hits, and drove in two; meanwhile, Yu! nel Esobar scored three times and Barbaro Canizares along with Nate McLouth had two hits each. For Baltimore, Nick Markakis, Oscar Salazar and Mick Markakis had two hits each.

After last night's Leafs vs Islanders game, Ron Wilson (coach of Toronto) had an interesting press conference that included an interesting exchange with Howard Berger.

NHL Names Norris Finalists

The NHL yesterday named its three finalists for the Norris Trophy. Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, Mike Green of the Washington Capitals and Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings are the finalists for the Norris Trophy, the awarded given for the NHL's best defenseman during the regular season.

Lidstrom has won the trophy six of the last seven seasons, the only year in that time period that he didn't win was in 2003-04 when Scott Niedermayer won it. Neither Chara or Green have won the award before.

I would be shocked if Lidstrom won this season because I think that although he had a good season, that Chara and Green were phenominal. Green, known more as an offensive defenseman finished the season with 31 goals (despite playing in only 68 games). He also set an NHL record when he scored in eight consecutive games, setting the NHL record for most consecutive games with a goal by a defenceman. The former record was set by Mike O'Connell in the 1983–84! NHL season. Chara on the other hand is an all-around player, he has the size (6-9) and both the skills offensively to kill you (hardest slap shot in the NHL) and defefensively to shut you down. He is the Captain of the Boston Bruins who had a great season.

In my opinion either Green or Chara will get the Norris Trophy, as they both had great seasons.

Rangers Qualify Zherdev, Not Sjostrom

According to Blue Notes:

Rangers president and general manager said a few minutes ago that the Rangers have given qualifying offers to some of their restricted free agents, including Nik Zherdev, but not Fredrik Sjostrom.

In his first interview with New York writers since the Rangers exited the playoffs in the first round, Sather also said that the agent for Nik Antropov was overpricing his client.

Looks like for one of the few times Glen Sather agrees with me on something, as I posted last week that I thought that Antropov was asking for way too much money.

Will post more when I find out what other Rangers were given qualifying offers, as of now the Rangers are just reporting that Zherdev was qualified. Does this mean he won't b! e traded to Ottawa now? Or, is it a sign and trade?

Bayern Munich berhasil memanfaatkan momentum kebangkitannya. Tak tanggung-tanggung, raksasa asal Jerman itu menggelontor Borussia Dortmund 5-1.

Dalam laga yang digelar di Signal-Iduna-Park, Sabtu (12/9/09) lima gol Bayern dilesakkan oleh Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery, dan Thomas Muller sebanyak dua kali. Sedangkan gol semata wayang dari Dortmund dicetak oleh Mats H! ummels.

Hasil ini meruskan langkah apik Bayern sebelumnya yang juga berhasil menang dengan skor besar melawan Wolfsburg 3-0 dua pekan lalu. Padahal sebelum itu FC Hollywood hanya mampu meraih dua kali hasil imbang dan sekali kalah.

Bermain di kandang lawan, Bayern sempat tertekan di awal laga. Bahkan mereka harus tertinggal lebih dulu setelah tandukan Hummel bersarang di jala gawang tim tamu di menit 10.

Namun Bayern tetap tampil tenang. Hasilnya mereka berhasil menyamakan kedudukan di menit 36 melalui sundulan Gomez. Skor ini bertahan sampai turun minum.

Bidikan kaki kanan Schweinsteiger membuat Bayern unggul di menit 50. Lima menit berselang pendukung tuan rumah kembali dibuat tercengang setelah Ribery sukses menambah angka via tendangan bebas.

Pertunjukan bel! um usai, kali ini giliran Muller yang unjuk gigi. Di menit 78 ! tembakan nya bersarang mulus ke gawang tuan rumah.

Sembilan menit kemudian penyerang berusia 19 tahun itu mencetak gol keduanya dan membawa Bayern unggul 5-1. Hasil ini bertahan sampai wasit Knut Kircher meniup peluit panjang tanda berakhirnya pertandingan.

Pelatih Inggris, Fabio Capello, menyerukan agar Inggris menyapu bersih semua laga kualifikasi Piala Dunia dengan kemenangan. Wayne Rooney optimistis 'Tiga Singa' bisa melakukannya.

Di saat tim lain masih harus bersusah payah untuk lolos ke Afrika Selatan tahun depan, Inggris merupakan satu dari segelintir tim yang sudah bisa berpangku tangan.

John Terry dkk memang selalu tampil prima selama kualifikasi. Inggris membukukan poin sempurna dari delapan laga yang telah dilakoni dan memimpin Grup 6 dengan selisih tujuh poin dari Ukraina yang berada di bawahnya.

Rooney sendiri sudah mengungkapkan bahwa Capello telah menyerukan untuk melalui dua laga terakhir, melawan Ukraina dan Belarusia, dengan meraih kemenangan. "Manajer meminta kami untuk memenangi semua 10 pertandingan. Itulah yang kami tuju," ucapnya seperti dilansir Guardian.

"Ada sesuatu yang berbeda dari Inggris kali ini. Kami memainkan sepak bola yang apik terutama dalam pertandingan kualifikasi," lanjutnya.

Meski tampil cemerlang di kualfikasi, pada laga persahabatan Inggris masih bolong-bolong. Jika menghadapi tim seperti Spanyol dan Belanda, The Three Lions masih kerap kesulitan. Buktinya, S! panyol bisa menundukkan mereka 0-2, sementara Belanda bisa men! ahan mer eka 2-2.

Hanya saja Rooney yakin Inggris di bawah arahan Capello ini bisa melalui tantangan apa pun. "Pertandingan persahabatan kami memang tak bagus, tetapi ketika kami harus melakukan yang diperlukan, maka kami bisa melakukannya," tukasnya.

As most Spurs fans already know, Andrei Arshavin is on the clubs radar and could become Tottenham Hotspur's biggest signing in history.

Is that really the case though? After all, it wouldn't be the first time a player has stated he wanted to leave his present club, only to be awarded with an improved deal - I use the scums' Adebayor as a prime example.

Also, it's the first time I've personally witnessed a players agent publicly appear on various radio stations as well as tabloids, and tell the worlds media that his client "has made up his mind about where he will be playing his football next season; that club being Tottenham Hotspur".

Only three weeks ago, Arshavin's agent was claiming that "he would only move to Barcelona". So what's changed?

We're either on the brink of the signing of the summer, or Arshavin and his management team are trying to flush another team out and bi! d against Tottenham' generous £17 million bid.

I think that by the end of the week, all the cards will be on the table.

Fabiano Ogah Lanjutkan Negosiasi dengan Milan

RIO DE JANEIRO — Agen Luis Fabiano, Jose Fuentes, menilai AC Milan tidak serius menginginkan kliennya. Karenanya, ia enggan melanjutkan negosiasi dengan "I Rossoneri".

La risposta è veramente facile:il calcio viene visto dagli inglesi non come un semplice sport anzi come un vero e proprio spettacolo( tanto che si gioca anche nei giorni di festa),infatti andare allo stadio per loro equivale ad una serata in teatro o al cinema. Proprio questa passione per il gioco più bello de! l mondo li induce a comportarsi in maniera civile,a differenza nostra.
Questo clima e perchè no tutti i soldi provenienti dalle tv,inglesi e non solo,dagli sponsor e dagli stadi puntualmente tutti esauriti invitano i più grandi miliardari ad acquistare un club e in definitiva a migliorarne il calcio .
Abramovich,Gillette e Hicks e molti altri,pur non essendo amatissimi,investono tantissimo sui giovani che molto spesso si rivelano campioni,vedi Adebayor,Fabregas,Drogba e la lista potrebbe continuare...
Questo strapotere economico in sede di mercato e questa voglia di aspettare che i giovani maturino fino a diventare campioni danneggieranno sempre di più gli altri campionati,in primis quello italiano.
Non ci resta che imparare,perchè i club dei "campioni del mondo"meritano l'elite del calcio europeo e non solo.

L'infortunio di Gennaro Gattuso ha portato nella Nazionale di Marcello Lippi quello che sembra poter diventare il suo erede naturale: Antonio Nocerino. Il ct azzurro, dopo aver valutato le candidature dell'udinese D'Agostino e del napoletano Blasi, ha optato per il centrocampista del Palermo, reduce da un ottimo campionato con la Juventus. Uno dai piedi discreti, ma dalla grinta smisurata. Proprio come "Ringhio".
Un premio alla dedizione di Nocerino, che la scorsa stagione si era conquistato il posto da titolare nella Juve di Ranieri, prima che l'arrivo di Sissoko gli togliesse un po' di spazio.
Napoletano classe 1985, Antonio è poi entrato nello sca! mbio che ha portato Amauri in bianconero e in estate ha partecipato alla sfortunata spedizione dell'Olimpica a Pechino 2008, risultando uno dei meno colpevoli del naufragio cinese.
Un giocatore già esperto nonostante i soli 23 anni e che per questo è finito sotto la lente di ingrandimento di Lippi. Che alla prima occasione utile ha deciso di convocarlo.
Certo mercoledì difficilmente scenderà in campo contro la Georgia, anche perché per sostituire uno come Gattuso non è cosa che si può fare dall'oggi al domani. Ma è un segnale.

"Dopo un lungo corteggiamento iniziato nella primavera del 2007 finalmente David e' arrivato nella nostra societa'. Ovviamente facciamo il nostro benvenuto a David che arriva in prestito dai Los Angeles Galaxy, che ringrazio per la disponibilita'. Il prestito durera' fino a giugno del 2009, ma con un impegno d'onore che sara' rispettato, di lasciare il giocatore il 7 di marzo. Sara' disponibile da Milan-Roma a Milan-Atalant! a dell'8 di Marzo. Organizzeremo delle amichevoli, ci saranno delle partite di Coppa Italia, sara' l'allenatore poi a decidere se inserirlo nelle liste di Uefa, visto che con noi potrebbe fare solo i sedicesimi di finale. Beckham e' un giocatore che tutti conoscono, che ha vinto tutto in Inghilterra e in Spagna, speriamo che possa contribuire anche qui. Opportunità dal punto di vista professionale, sia chiaro. Perchè Becks, parole sue, non è arrivato a Milano per una vacanza di lusso: "Cerchero' di essere il miglior professionista possibile. Son qui per lavorare e aiutare la squadra. Sara' un piacere lavorare con colleghi del calibro di Kaka', Maldini, Ronaldinho, con gente che ho sempre ammirato, ma con la quale! non ho mai giocato. E' chiaro che avro' bisogno di inserirmi, non ho intenzione di stravolgere nulla. Ripeto, per me e' una grandissima opportunita' e voglio sfruttarla appieno. Sara' difficile giocare subito, ma sto bene, ho solo bisogno di allenarmi. Non si parla di restare qui per anni, anche se nessuno puo' dire cosa succedera', ma cio' che voglio fare e' integrarmi e aiutare i compagni. Tra i miei ex compagni c'e' ancora qualcuno che non ci crede, altri mi hanno dato consigli, ma tutti sono stati contenti della mia scelta". Sul suo stato di forma ha garantito anche Galliani: "I test sono stati superati con lode, mi hanno detto che e' in ottime condizioni fisiche. Dopo Dubai sono convinto che sara' gia' pronto per giocare".

Di questo passo riconquistare la maglia della nazionale inglese, vero obiettivo di Beckham, non resterà un'utopia: "E' chiaro che Fabio Capello e' una persona che rispetto tantissimo. Ho chiesto la sua opinione, nessuno mi ha detto o cons! igliato una squadra, io volevo giocare in Italia e ho verifica! to se ci fosse la possibilita' di venire al Milan. Lui l'unica cosa che mi ha detto e' di fare calcio ad altissimi livelli e dunque la scelta del Milan e' stata perfetta. L'Inghilterra? E' una cosa giusta, se uno non gioca nella sua squadra, se non da' il massimo, sicuramente non si merita la convocazione in Nazionale. Capello e' un grande manager: lui non guarda ai campionati o ai nomi, ma alle prestazioni. Per me riuscire a tornare a giocare con l'Inghilterra per me sarebbe un onore e voi sapete che io provero' a tornarci e per farlo cerchero' di giocare qui nel Milan, questo e' il mio obiettivo. Sono realista, so che non sono il piu' giovane, ci sono tanti buoni giocatori che meritano la Nazionale. Io spero di riuscire a farne parte: ho superato le 100 presenze, il tempo passa, ma la passione e' sempre la stessa, quella del primo giorno".

E di passione il campione inglese sembra averne già tanta per la sua nuova squadra e il suo nuovo campionato: "Io mi sono gia' innam! orato. L'ho gia' detto, mi e' piaciuto giocare con il Manchester United, col Real Madrid e sento gia' che c'e' un innamoramento in corso. Sara' difficile lasciare questo club, ma mi e' gia' accaduto di farlo. Io sono del Galaxy e a marzo tornero' in America. La storia del club e' fantastica. Penso a Maldini che ha 40 anni e gioca ancora a livelli eccezionali. Lui e' solo un esempio, ma fotografa la classe di un club. L'eta' non conta. Ancelotti? E' eccezionale, merita tutto il rispetto del mondo. Ho sempre rispettato il modo italiano di fare calcio, fatto con passione e con uno stile particolare. Uno dei motivi per cui sono qui in Italia e per imparare a conoscerlo meglio. Ho affrontato spesso squadre italiane, anche la Nazionale e so quanto e' difficile giocarci contro. Non vedo l'ora di iniziare". E guai a pizzicarlo sul tema del gossip o della moda: "La moda non ha avuto nulla a che fare con la mia scelta. Il motivo principale e' stato quello di vestire la maglietta ross! onera e basta. Per me era un sogno, un desiderio che poi e' di! ventato realta'. Sono qui per il Milan, non per la moda".

Poi finalmente l'ufficializzazione del suo numero di maglia: "Ho scelto il 32. Io ho giocato con tanti numeri, e' stato il primo numero che mi e' stato offerto e ho accettato perche' non c'era motivo di rifiutarlo". Un commento anche sul prossimo derby con l'Inter ("Ne ho giocati tanti e non vedo l'ora di giocare quello di Milano. L'Inter e' fortissima e ha un allenatore eccezionale"), prima di commentare il sorteggio di Champions: "Quando ho scoperto i sorteggi, sono stato colpito perche' io saro' qui quando il Manchester arrivera' a Milano. Ma l'unica cosa a cui penso e' quella di giocare per il Milan. Se poi dovessi riuscire a tornare a giocare in Champions League sara' un piacere".

In chiusura una sorta di manifesto del Beckham-pensiero: "L'unica mia pressione e' quella di giocare al calcio. Ho giocato in tutte le piu' importanti squadre del mondo e dappertutto mi e' sempre stata fatta questa domanda! . Sono abituato. USA IN LISTA PER I MONDIALI 2018

Gli Stati Uniti si sono candidati a ospitare i mondiali di Calcio del 2018, oppure quelli del 2022. La decisione di presentare la candidatura e' stata resa nota oggi dal presidente della federazione americana, Sunil Gulati. 'La Coppa del Mondo e' il piu' grande evento sportivo al mondo e avere l'opportunita' di ospitarlo di nuovo rappresenta un'incredibile sfida' ha detto. 55 sono i gol in Serie A, 23 in Champions League, 1 in Supercoppa Europea e 1 nel Mondiale per Club.
Non ci resta che sperare in continuo di carriera altrettanto prolifico.

IL BARI PRESENTA VENTURA

BARI- Nel giorno della sua presentazione Giampiero Ventura, genovese di 61 anni ed ex allenatore tra le tante di Cagliari e Napoli, non nasconde la grande emozione e l orgoglio di sedere su una panchina importante come quella di Bari, citta chè, come ribadito nella conferenza stampa odierna, lo ha ricoperto d affetto e complimenti ma lo ha allo stesso tempo caricato di grande responsabilità, consapevole di avere di fronte una delle tifoserie più calde e passionali dell intera penisola.
Emozioni a parte il mister ligure diventa serio e preciso quando si parla di obiettivi, chiarisce l intezione di ! confermarsi in una serie A dalla quale i pugliesi mancavano da troppo tempo, e di mantenere,sotto ordine della società, un bilancio sano; con la speranza di far schizzare, a suon di gol, le valutazioni di alcuni giocatori cosi come accaduto quest anno col neo-romanista Guberti.
