Breakfast headlines


Cricket:

Proteas batsman, AB de Villiers, says the worst thing they can do is to underestimate the Australians. The test series starts at the Wanderers on Thursday. De Villiers says he enjoys being on of the senior players in the side.

Meanwhile, Aussie batsman, Mike Hussey, says their entire batting unit needs to fire if they're to stand a chance against the Proteas.

Younis Khan was 310 not out with the first test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka heading for a draw on the final day. Pakistan are 588 for 5 in reply to Sri Lanka's 644 for 7 declared.

The Proteas women kick-off a training camp at UWC today ahead of the World Cup in Australia which starts next weekend. Boland's Sunnette Louscher captains the side. Top order batter Kirstie Thomson is out of the competition due to injury and will be replaced by youngster Marizanne Kapp.

Football:

There were three draws in last night'! s UEFA Champions League first leg knockouts. Atletico Madrid drew 2-2 with Porto, Lyon drew 1-1 with Barcelona and Inter and Man United played out an exciting goalless draw. The only win belonged to Arsenal, who beat Roma 1-0, thanks to a Robin van Persie penalty. Tonight's big matches are Real Madrid versus Liverpool and Chelsea against Juventus.

In the FA Cup, Fulham beat Swansea 2-1 and Coventry beat Blackburn 1-0.

Ajax Cape Town face bottom of the log Bay United at Athlone at half past seven tonight, but coach Craig Rosslee has conceded his team's league title race is virtually over after slipping to eight points behind Supersport United.

Rugby:

Auckland Blues coach, Pat Lam, says he's reading nothing into the Vodacom Stormers performance against the Reds. The two sides clash at Newlands on Saturday night.

Golf:

Tiger Woods makes his long awaited return to tournament golf! at the Accenture Matchplay Championship today after eight mon! ths on t he sidelines following knee surgery.

Other:

The Sports Ministry has wished Oscar Pistorius a speedy recovering after his boat accident. They say they can't help but worry about the impact it will have on his participation IAAF World Championships later this year.
