Is McLaren's Lewis Hamilton taking over from Michael Schumacher as the new reigenmeister? Hamilton once again showed at the weekend that copes better than most in wet weather conditions, where he led the British Grand Prix from practically start to finish and managed to keep his car on the track where the rest of the front-runners failed to do so.
The 23-year-old Briton drove a very similar race in Japan last year also in treacherous weather conditions and with the same result. This week, all ten teams are at Hockenhein for a three-day testing period ahead of the German Grand Prix in ten! days time. It was barely surprising when Hamilton went fastest around a wet Hockenheim circuit. He circled the track in one minute 15.483 seconds, almost four tenths of a second faster than Ferrari rival Kimi Raikkonen.
McLaren are experimenting with a new dorsal fin engine cover similar to that used by Renault and Red Bull. McLaren chief, Martin Whitmarsh, says they'll have to keep improving their car because Ferrari will no doubt be more competitive after their Silverstone disappointment.
The Formula One circuit returns to Hockenheim after a year's absence after it was decided to alternate with the Nurburgring.
